• BT has announced the £52.65 million ($105 million) purchase of Ribbit Corporation, a Silicon Valley-based, Internet telecommunications firm
• Leeds-based IT and professional training firm Xpertise Group has acquired Parity Training for £4.7 million. The move will make AIM-listed Xpertise the second biggest IT trainer in the country, with combined turnover of £40 million
• Broca Plc, a provider of secure messaging technology, has bought Sure on Sight for £350,000 in a cash and shares deal
• United Business Media has acquired four tradeshows on behalf of its Live Media business for £4.7 million. The deals are set to broaden their event portfolio in key markets
• Cambridge-based vaccines specialist Acambis, has been sold to French drugs giant Sanofi Pasteur for £276 million in cash. Acambis is the last established Cambridge biotech company to fall into new ownership
• Accountancy firm Bartfields has acquired BDO Stoy Hayward’s Leeds business services team for an undisclosed sum, after two key BDO partners retired
• HSBC Infrastructure Company has completed the £8.3 million equity and loan stock takeover of three Private Finance Initative projects from Bouygues Group
• HBOS has announced a £3 million equity deal worth £20 million in advertising company Iris Worldwide

• HML Holdings Plc has acquired Grovewood Property Management and Grovewood Property Management South West for £250,000, which includes a 20 per cent retention against warranties and performance criteria
• One of India’s leading IT companies, Rolta has announced the signing of an agreement to acquire WhittmanHart Consulting, the consulting division of Chicago-based WhittmanHart, for an undisclosed sum
