Schofield signs eighth deal

Schofield Healthcare Media, a division of Schofield Media Europe, has acquired Medical Education Partnership, a provider of educational resources for healthcare professionals, for an undisclosed sum. This transaction represents the eighth acquisition by Schofield Media Group LLC in three years.

European DVD and games rental service Lovefilm is understood to have received £10.5 million from Lloyds TSB’s corporate markets division. The funding will be used to repay existing debt and invest in technology.

Engineering consultancy hurleypalmerflatt has bought building services firm ATCO Consulting in Glasgow in a move to expand its presence in Scotland. ATCO provides building services engineering, project management, and are accredited low carbon consultants. The size of the transaction has not been revealed.

Medreport, a Clevedon-based provider of independent medical reports to the legal and insurance sectors, has secured £3.25 million from Bank of Scotland Corporate to help it develop the business.

HIG Europe, a European affiliate of lower mid-market private equity firm HIG Capital, has acquired FNZ Holdings, a financial software venture, for an undisclosed sum.

Headquartered in Beverly Hills Platinum Equity has acquired a majority stake in DAUM Commercial Real Estate Services, a provider of commercial real estate services in Arizona and Southern California. No financial terms were disclosed.

Deals in the Pipeline
It is understood that takeover talks are taking place between Premium Bars & Restaurants, the beleaguered Aim-listed group, and 3D Entertainment, the club and bar operator spun out of Luminar Leisure.

GlaxoSmithKline has signed an agreement with Belgium-based biopharmaceutical group UCB SA to acquire its product portfolio across certain territories in Africa, the Middle East, Asia Pacific and Latin America for €515 million (£483 million) in cash.

Telkom, the South African fixed-line telephone operator, has strengthened its presence on the African continent with the acquisition of the remaining 25 per cent of Multi-Links, a Nigerian private telecommunications operator. Telkom acquired 75 per cent of Multi-Links in May 2007.
