Fair merger for Banque Benedict Hentsch

Done Deals

• US hedge fund Fairfield Greenwich Group has merged with Swiss private bank Banque Benedict Hentsch, bringing their managed assets to $18 billion (£10.2 billion)

• OpenJaw Technologies, a global payments group, has announced that it has acquired Galway-based Traventec, a travel technology services company, for an undisclosed sum

• The US government has taken over mortgage companies Fannie May and Freddie Mac. The government will assume responsibility for debts worth about £2.7 trillion and almost half of all American mortgages

• Atlantis Resources Corporation, a developer of tidal energy turbines, has announced the acquisition of Current Resources, tidal energy project developer, from Morgan Stanley for an undisclosed sum

• Ferrovial, a Spanish infrastructure group, has agreed to sell Belfast City Airport to ABN Amro Global Infrastructure Fund for £132.5 million

• Dutch electronics group Philips, has expanded its healthcare business in emerging markets by buying Indian-based Alpha X-Ray Technologies

• Sofinnova Partners has led a £7.35 million second round of funding for mydeco, an online intermediary for the home design market

• Profita Group has acquired a majority stake in Haggblom-companies, a manufacturer of earth-moving machine parts

• Primaca Group has bought Metso Foundaries Karlstad, a manufacturer of large, hand-moulded iron castings for €15 million (£12 million)

• Yokogawa has merged the activities of its two main Dutch companies, Yokogawa Nederland and Yokogawa System Centre Europe, under the new name of Yokogawa Europe Solutions

• Office and payroll applications provider Safe Computing has acquired ledgers specialist Topaz Computing Services

• Speymill Macau, an AIM-listed property investment company, has acquired AIA Tower for $76.9 million (£43.5 million)

• Furnishings chain MFI is looking at a possible merger with Homeform, the owner of rival kitchens brand Moben

• Britain’s biggest building society, Nationwide, has confirmed it is in discussions to acquires two of its smaller rivals, the Derbyshire and the Cheshire building societies

• Cambridge Technology Enterprises has announced that it is to buy US-based Protege Software Services

• Italian oil group Eni has agreed to buy Canadian-based First Calgary Petroleums in a deal worth $872 million (£492 million)

• Manitou has agreed to acquire US construction equipment maker Gehl for $331 million (£186.6 million)

• China Eastern Airlines has admitted a merger with Shanghai Airlines is a distinct possibility
