AIG invests in Brazillian engineering firm

• AIG Investments has invested $38.6 million (£21.9 million) in Advent Group, a speciality engineering services provider based in Brazil

• Property investment group Bluemantle has secured an £85 million refinancing package

• XAnge Private Equity and CVC Enterprises have sold GeneSystems, a French developer of molecular diagnostics platforms, to Pall

• Anglo-Swiss mining firm Xstrata has acquired a 17.83 per cent stake in Indophil Resources after its £232.3 million bid lapsed last week

• US-based IHS has acquired Documental Solutions, a provider of market intelligence for $24.5 million (£13.9 million)

• Harbinger Capital Partners has increased its stake in Cablevision Systems to 9.1 per cent

• Equity Based Services has acquired Las Vegas-based Silverado Self Storage for $11.3 million (£6.4 million)

• Samsung Electronics is seriously considering a bid for US-based flash memory maker Scandisk

• Zimmer Holdings has agreed to pay $360 million (£204.4 million) for Abbott Laboratories in order to increase its line of spinal medical devices

• Insurer Assuring has agreed to buy a unit of General Electric that sells extended warranties on appliances for $25 million (£14.2 million)

• Credit Agricole has allocated $145 million (£82.3 million) for mid to large scale LBO investments

• Investment company Ninety has conditionally agreed to acquire Honour Field for up to £20.1 million

• Sylvania Lighting Services, a subsidiary of lighting manufacturer has signed an agreement to acquire Amtech Lighting Services. The deal is set to complete on October 31
