Betbrokers to buy US firm

Betbrokers plc, a sports betting broker and clearing house, is buying a US-based sports information and tipping business.

The London-based company, which provides a telephone service allowing gamblers to place or take bets, has signed a letter of intent to buy Las Vegas company Winning Edge International.

The deal, which is expected to close in June, has been agreed for $6.5 million (£4.3 million), which will be satisfied in shares. The deal is conditional upon the results of further due diligence reviews and the approval of Winning Edge’s shareholders.

This move is part of Betbrokers’ strategy of building an international information service. The acquisition of Winning Edge will enable the company to provide its non-American clients with data and tips on US sports as well as extending its trading hours and introducing television, radio and Internet services to its business.

Betbrokers, which was established in 2003, provides a telephone brokerage, settlement, risk management and clearing house services for retail and wholesale clients.

Winning Edge is the only publicly listed sports information and tipping service in the US. It also has advertising and sponsorship operations.
