Star Sportswear in management buy-out
A family run sportwear company has been acquired by its management for an undisclosed sum.
Wakefield-based Star Sportswear, which owns the Prostar brand, has been bought by a three-strong management team backed by Kenmore Private Equity.
Clearwater Corporate Finance advised the MBO team, which is led by new managing director Doug Bedford and includes sales and marketing director Shane Bray and finance director Alastair Harries.
Yorkshire Bank provided the acquisition finance and working capital for the transaction.
Family-run since 1916, Star Sportswear supplied socks to the first team to climb Everest. The company employs 100 people and has an annual turnover of £11 million, selling sports wear and accessories. The business is a market leader in the amateur and semi-pro teams.
