A national provider of domiciliary and care home services for elderly, mentally ill, adults with learning disabilities and children has strengthened its business in the northwest after it bought an Ashton-under-Lyne firm.

Care UK plc has acquired Access Homecare from Shirlie Traynor, who established the business in 1997. The financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed but the deal was funded by Care’s existing debt.

The acquirer currently provides more than 80,000 hours of homecare a week to some 11,000 service users via a network of 44 branches and works with 70 local authorities throughout the UK.

Care’s M&A director, Rob Starr, said: “Access Homecare meets our strategy of acquiring high quality home care providers in key areas. Access has excellent relationships with three local authorities, is in a key geographical area for us and has a strong, professional, management team in place.”

The acquired business will become an operating branch of Care UK with Traynor retained to assist with the transition. 

Colchester-based Care is listed on the London Stock Exchange and valued at more than £300 million. The group reported a £183.3 million turnover for the year to October 2006 with an operating profit of £19.5 million.

Access Homecare provides more than 7,000 hours each week of domiciliary home care for the elderly, people with physical and learning disabilities and others who require care in the Tameside, Glossop, Chapel-en-le-Frith and Oldham areas.
