DynaSolar dual-powered torch
Batteries are so last century. This dual-powered torch from Taiwan-based LED lighting specialist GlacialTech dispenses with them altogether, substituting solar cells and a wind-up handle.
The concept of a solar-powered torch may seem paradoxical, but as long as you remember to leave it in the sun during the day, you’ll get about two hours of operation out of it at night. When that runs out, two minutes of cranking the handle will generate an extra 15 minutes of power.
Retailing at £12.95, the torch is about 15 centimetres in length and has three LEDs, allowing you to control the level of brightness by the number of LEDs used.
It’s billed as being more convenient as you don’t have to bother to replace used-up batteries. Whether you really find it more convenient or not, you can still have the satisfaction of feeling virtuous as it’s definitely more environmentally friendly than the battery-powered variety.
