  • Carpet and floor coverings retailer Carpetright has bought Melford Commercial Properties for £7.2 million cash assuming debt of £7.8 million, and is set to buy Dutch company Ben de Graaff Tapijt for some €8 million (£6.3 million). The acquisitions complement its existing operations and adds curtains and window blinds to its offering

  • Morgan Crucible Company plc has bought Certech and Carpenter Advanced Ceramics from Carpenter Technology Corporation, for $145 million (£73.4 million)

  • Royal & Sun Alliance Insurance Group plc has acquired Sertus Underwriting of Ireland
