United Drug buys Yorkshire business

A Dublin-based provider of services to healthcare manufacturers and pharmaceutical retailers has strengthened its operations in the UK after buying a company in Yorkshire.

United Drug plc, Ireland’s largest pharmaceutical wholesaler, has bought Procon Conferences, a pharmaceutical conference services company.

The group paid £4.2 million in cash on completion for the business, with up to £1.2 million due if agreed targets are achieved over the next 12 months.

Post-completion, Procon will trade as part of United Drug’s contract sales and consultancy outsourcing division and will be led by its existing senior management team.

United Drug’s chief executive, Liam FitzGerald, said the group targeted Procon to broaden its range of services.

This deal comes a month after its £4.6 million acquisition of US-based pharmaceutical sales and marketing services company Alliance Healthcare Information.

United Drug also provides distribution-related services in pharmaceutical contract packaging and speciality distribution in the UK, Holland and Belgium.

Harrogate-based Procon provides corporate event management services to the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors. Its event management services include venue finding, association and secretariat membership as well as delegate registration.
