Investors fund Short Fuze
Technology company Short Fuze, which specialises in digital film making, has secured £1 million in a Series A fundraiser led by CREATE Partners and IQ Capital Fund. GEIF Ventures and a consortium of private angels including entrepreneur Jack Lang also provided funding.
The proceeds are expected to fund technology development, increase staffing and speed up the company’s progression to market. It is the first investment by IQ, which is managed by NW Brown & Company.
Cambridge-based Short Fuze develops a new digital art form called 'machinima' and has created 3D film-making application Moviestorm, which uses machinima and is due to launch in June 2007. The company also works on computer and mobile games.
'Machinima has always been thought of as an offshoot of games,' says Matt Kelland, Short Fuze’s creative director. 'We’re aiming to make machinima an offshoot of animation. The fact that it uses technology developed by and for the games industry is a bit of a red herring. What this is really all about is ultra-low budget film-making.'
Hewitsons advised Short Fuze, while Mills & Reeve acted for IQ, CREATE and GEIF.
