Whitelaw Turkington, a South London-headquartered firm of landscape architects, has been acquired by European engineering consultancy group Grontmij. The £3.6 million turnover company will continue to be led by CEO Lindsey Whitelaw and trade under its existing brand name.

Lawrence Hughes, Grontmij’s managing director for the UK and Ireland, says that the acquiring company has seen organic growth of approximately 25 per cent each year for the past five years.

He adds: ‘Now we’re looking to complement that growth with strategic acquisitions which will enable us to add value to existing clients and engage clients in new market sectors.’

Grontmij, which is listed on the Euronext Stock Exchange in Amsterdam, was advised on the deal by Hammonds Solicitors and financial advisers BDO Stoy Hayward.

In the past year, Whitelaw Turkington has won some high-profile projects including a £3.3 million contract for the redevelopment of Shepherd’s Bush Common in West London, and the redesign of the square that marks the entrance to the Millenium Dome, now rebranded the O2 Arena.
