Galliford Try, a construction and housebuilding group, has acquired northeast-based housing contractor, Kendall Cross Holdings, for £9.3 million cash.

Galliford provides construction services across the UK to a range of public and private sector clients and has regional housebuilding businesses that specialise in individually designed developments across the south and east of the country.

Newly acquired Kendall Cross is headquartered in Newcastle-upon-Tyne with operations across the northeast. The enlarged business will enable Galliford to develop a significant market presence in the region.

Galliford’s chief executive, Greg Fitzgerald, commented: “The expansion of our affordable housing and regeneration business is a key element of our strategy going forward. The acquisition of Kendall Cross provides an established platform to grow the business in the northeast of England, an area in which we do not currently have a presence and in which we see considerable potential. Putting the resources and expertise of Galliford Try behind the local client base and excellent reputation of Kendall Cross will enable us to develop a significant market presence in the region.”
