Engineering and construction group Balfour Beatty has completed a trio of acquisitions. The group is buying two British companies and one from Sweden for £9 million.

In Sweden, Balfour Beatty Rail acquired Swedish rail contractor Carillion Rails. The business, which had sales last year of SEK 418 million (£30.3 million), carries out track maintenance, electrification and power supply projects.

In the UK, Balfour Beatty’s professional and technical services arm, Balfour Beatty Management, has acquired Middlesbrough-based NAP Partnership. NAP has annual sales of £6 million and provides consultancy and project management services to clients in the North of England.

Also in the UK, Balfour Beatty Infrastructure Services, the group’s road management and maintenance division, has acquired Chris Britton Consultancy. The vendor offers specialist services relating to pavement engineering, network management and asset management.

Balfour Beatty’s chief executive Ian Tyler comments: ‘We continue to strengthen our business through acquisition where appropriate opportunities arise.

‘Through these three transactions in market areas where we already have strong businesses, we have both further improved our market position and added to our earnings growth potential.’
