One Media buys music catalogue
An audio-visual music catalogue group has continued its expansion strategy with the acquisition of the rights to thousands of music tracks for £25,000.
One Media Publishing Group plc has bought the digital rights of some 3,000 TV themes, film scores, karaoke tracks and cover versions.
The group bought the catalogue to meet the growing demand from its digital retail customers for mobile phone ringtones. The company plans to distribute these tracks to the traditional record industry in Europe and North America through its network of digital retailers and sales operations.
One Media’s chief executive Michael Infante confirmed that the catalogue would bolster the group’s downloading operations. “In North America, we have seen market growth for cover versions released on compact disc and a demand for quality cover version tracks from advertising agencies to create radio and TV adverts.
“Up until now we have not been able to meet this demand, but with this catalogue we expect to see a broadening of our licensing appeal to meet the demands of younger consumers,” he added. “We continue to be on the look out for other opportunities within the field of audio visual content acquisitions.”
This deal follows February’s £9,000 acquisition of the rights to more than 130 performances by Ike and Tina Turner as well as some of their solo material.
