Engineering firm FKI has acquired historic locomotive works Hunslet-Barclay out of administration for £2.1 million.

The purchase, made through FKI’s subsidiary Brush Traction, saves 120 jobs at the 167 year-old firm after it went into administration last month. The purchase allows it to continue its business of repairing railway locomotives and coaches from its base in Kilmarnock.

The acquisition of the business of Hunslet-Barclay fits in with the strategy that FKI has been looking to execute by expanding Brush Traction's locomotive manufacturing business to include coach and locomotive refurbishment.
