TG Eakin, which manufactures medical skincare products, has bought rival Pelican Healthcare for an undisclosed sum. The deal is part of TG Eakins’ long-term growth and expansion strategy.

TG Eakin manufactures skincare products for stoma and wound care. It exports to 25 countries and employs about 50 people. The company was founded in 1974 by Tom Eakin and is now run by his sons Paul and Jeremy.

Based in Comber, Northern Ireland, TG Eakin made a turnover of about £10 million and a pre-tax profit of £7.85 million for the year to March 31, 2006.

Cardiff-based Pelican produces stoma care and feminine healthcare products for the UK market. It has more than 120 employees. It generated a pre-tax profit of some £828,000 for the year ended December 31, 2005.

TG Eakin’s managing director Jeremy Eakin said: “This expansion is fantastic news for our company. The acquisition gives us access to a whole new range of products, which will dramatically enhance our export growth while also providing us with a new well-established UK distribution platform in Cardiff.

”It also allows us to diversify into an entirely new area of feminine healthcare, meaning our company is no longer reliant on the one industry sector.”
