Start-ups 'can run their businesses by mobile or email'

Many start-up businesses can save on overheads by running their business from home using a mobile phone and email, according to the National Federation of Enterprise Agencies (NFEA).

Chief executive of the NFEA George Derbyshire says that working from home is a 'growing trend' and 'one can only envisage that this trend will continue'.

Choosing to use the services of an incubator centre rather than a permanent business address for postal services, telephone number, meeting rooms, IT support, networking and business advice helped a record number of new businesses in 2007, Derbyshire believes.

'New business owners can focus on getting their business off the ground first and foremost without the risk or financial pressure of workspace overheads,' he comments.

Larger businesses can also use the services of a virtual office while continuing to work from home, Derbyshire adds.

Figures from the agency Flexibility show that the proportion of people working from home has increased incrementally, growing by nine per cent in 1997, ten per cent in 2001 and 11 per cent in 2005.

This is very true. It cuts out a big overhead for any company, not just a startup. It offers big savings which can also be passed onto the customer to help establish the new firm. Technology is a powerful tool and if used correctly can deliver great benefits. Being mobile delivers flexibility to your company and your customers. There isn't always a need to be tied down to set locations. It doesn't have to be expensive or confusing to 'go mobile'. It is an easy process with the right advice and technology at your fingertips.
